Both reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) technologies are
water treatment methods for water purification equipment. Water
purification equipment is generally distinguished by reverse
osmosis membranes and nanofiltration membranes made by these two
technologies.
The two have the following differences:
1. Different filtering precision Reverse osmosis can remove the
smallest solute with a molecular weight of less than 0.0001
microns. Due to its high filtration accuracy, it can filter out
bacteria and various impurities in water. It is generally used in
the manufacture of household purified water, industrial ultrapure
water and medical ultrapure water. Nanofiltration can remove
solutes with a molecular weight of about 0.001 microns, and is used
in environments with slightly lower filtration accuracy
requirements. It is generally used for water softening,
micro-pollution desalination and the manufacture of industrial pure
water.
2. Different desalination rates The desalination rate of reverse
osmosis technology is 99.5%, which can effectively intercept all
dissolved salts and various organic substances with a molecular
weight greater than 100, while allowing small molecular groups to
pass through. The nanofiltration system adopts the method of
cross-flow filtration, and the desalination rate is between 80 and
90%. It is mainly used for the concentration and purification of
macromolecular substances.
3. The proportion of "wastewater" produced is different Both
reverse osmosis and nanofiltration purify water by pressurizing and
electrifying, but the reverse osmosis technology due to the
different composition of the membrane, the wastewater produced by
reverse osmosis is 1:2-1:3, and the wastewater ratio of
nanofiltration is 1:1: 1. In terms of water saving and
environmental protection, reverse osmosis technology is more
resource-intensive. Compared with nanofiltration technology, it has
the advantages of partial removal of monovalent ions, low process
osmotic pressure, low operating pressure, and energy saving.

- When PH is above 10, the Maximum Temperature of Continuous
Operation is 35ºC.
